FSSAI stands for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, an association that looks after and governs the food business in India. It is an independent body built under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.

Process for getting FSSAI Registration/FSSAI food license 

  • The application must be attached with the needed documents. It must be proposed to the Food and Safety Department or uploaded online on the FoSCoS portal to fill up the application.
  • This application can be established or discarded by the Department within seven days from the date of receipt of an application. The refusal has to be saddened to the applicant in writing.
  • FBO should importantly exhibit the certificate of registration at the place of business during business hours.
  • The frequent documents necessary for Basic, State, and Central Registration are a passport photo and a photo ID proof.

FSSAI Registration necessity

  • Any FBO with an annual income of not more than Rs. 12 lakh.

For all other FBOs not together from small-scale businesses, the FSSAI license has to acquire. FSSAI License can be built into two categories, i.e., State FSSAI License and Central FSSAI License depending on the size of the business, whether it is a medium scale or large scale business.

Usually, FBOs who are huge manufacturers, importers, exporters dealing in large-scale food businesses require to get FSSAI registration from the central government, and FBO with small to medium-sized manufacturing units, marketers, traders, transporters, etc., require to take FSSAI registration from the state government. To relate to State License, the FBO must have revenue between Rs 12 lakh to Rs 20 crore.

Other circumstances include manufacturing units having a competence of 2MT per day and dairy units handling up to 5000 liters per day. The occupancy of the license is a maximum of 5 years and a minimum of 1 year.

To apply for a central license, the FBO must have a revenue beyond Rs. 20 crores and requires to have operations in two or more states. All importers and exporters require to apply for this license. The utmost tenure is 5 years, and the least is 1 year.

  •  Hotels, Restaurants, and Bars.
  •  Canteens and Cafeteria comprising mid-day meal canteens.
  •  Dhaba, PG giving food, Banquet halls with food catering arrangements, 
  •  Food stalls in fairs or religious institutes, Home Based Canteens.
  •  Importers and Exporters of food items comprising food ingredients.
  •  E-Commerce food suppliers are comprising cloud kitchens.
